Almost eight years after departing, Germany international Matthias Ginter will be returning to hometown club SC Freiburg ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The 28-year-old defender will rejoin Christian Streich’s high-flying side, who currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga table and will face Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal final later this month.
Matthias will join Freiburg off the back of five seasons with Borussia Mönchengladbach, having previously represented Borussia Dortmund.
In his first spell with Freiburg, Ginter made 81 appearances, scoring five goals.
