Unique Sports Group are proud to share the news that Calvin Bassey has signed for Ajax.
The former Rangers defender completed a move to the Eredivisie giants in a deal worth over Β£20m, becoming the most expensive defender in Dutch league history.
In addition to the above, he also became the most expensive Nigerian defender of all-time and the club-record fee received by Rangers.
Calvin made the move from Leicester’s academy to Rangers in the summer of 2020, going on to make 65 appearances across all competitions in the two-year period that followed.
During that time, he ended Celtic’s domination of the top flight by helping Rangers to their 55th league title in his first season in Glasgow.
He followed that up with a stellar second campaign, winning the Scottish Cup and reaching the final of the UEFA Europa League. He won a place in the team of the tournament and truly caught the eye during the Glasgow side’s memorable run to the final.
A first appearance for Nigeria also came in 2022, with Bassey holding six caps to his name thus far.
He now joins Dutch giants Ajax on a five-year deal – and speaking after the deal was confirmed, Calvin said:
βJust the fact that a club with the status and greatness of Ajax had their eye on me, I thought it was incredible.β
Everybody at Unique wishes Calvin all the very best with Ajax and with his move to Amsterdam.
